The importante of knowing (and respecting) tightening torque specifications

In the world of hunting weapons, cleaning or customizing our equipment often requires disassembling our guns, especially separating the stock from the barrel-action. Bergara rifles thanks to the fact that most of our rifles are based on the REM700 footprint is even more common, because we can find infinite aftermarket accessories for customization.

When assembling our rifles, we have perfectly measured the necessary tightening torque to avoid movements of the stock that may affect the safety or accuracy of our rifles. Applying the correct tightening torque guarantees a good fixation, and the consequences of an insufficient or excessive tightening torque can be very dangerous for our safety, as well as affecting the performance and accuracy of our weapon.

Although this information can be found in our product manuals inside the box of each rifle or on our website (link), we wanted to highlight this information in a unified way for our entire catalog:

– SERIES B-14 HUNTING (Includes HUNTER, SPORTER, TIMBER and RIDGE): 7.5NM or 67 inch-pounds.

– B-14 HYBRID SERIES (Includes HMR, BMP, TERRAIN): 6.2NM or 55 in- pounds

– RIMFIRE HUNTING SERIES (BMR): 6.2NM or 55inch-pounds

– RIMFIRE HIBRID SERIES (B14-R): 6.2NM or 55 inch-pounds

– RIMFIRE SEMIAUTO SERIES (BXR): 3.4NM or 30 inch-pounds

– PREMIER SERIES: 6.2NM or 55inch-pounds

As for the tightening order, it is important to tighten the front screw first and then the rear screw, in order to achieve a perfect fit.

It is also important to note that, for a better transmission of the recoil on the stock, the recoil tab or padding must rest perfectly on the rear surface of the stock. (see image for more details).

For any doubt or query, remember that you can contact our technical support service (email) where you can get more information and solve any doubt that may arise during the process.

Finally, we wanted to highlight the models that have carbon fiber tubes in the barrel, such as the BMR Carbon or B-14 R Trainer Carbon models. Both models have pre-loaded carbon fiber tubes, which increase the strength and accuracy performance while minimizing the weight of the barrel-action assembly.

In this case the specified torque is 14NM or 124 inch-pounds, any deviation will affect the overall performance.

Tightening torque on open sights and scope bases

The open sights are another element where the tightening torque will guarantee a correct fixation and a better precision at the moment of shooting. Since 2021 we have added free unmounted open sights to all B-14 models so everyone can mount this element according to the type of hunting they are going to do, although we recommend the use of a screw fixing product to fix them permanently to prevent them from coming loose or even losing them. Similarly, the scope bases and rails follow the same procedure as the open sights.

On all available models we recommend fixing both sighting elements and bases at 3NM – 25 inch-pounds, both for the 6x48UNS and 8x40UNS screws.
